Over 400 scouts, explorer scouts and leaders from across Northumberland flooded to the countryside last Saturday (15th October 2011) for a huge scouting event. The scouts were taking part in 'Operation Twilight', which is a enormous evasion exercise, becoming more popular and growing in numbers each time, with record breaking numbers this year. The young people, from Blyth, Cramlington, Seaton Delaval, and the surrounding areas, met at St Mary's Church of England Middle School in Belford to register, have their kit checked and a quick safety briefing.

On Thursday 28th July, 38,000 Scouts from nearly every country in the world joined together to celebrate the Opening Ceremony of the 22nd World Scout Jamboree in Sweden. Scouts and Leaders from Cramlington and Seaton Delaval are in attendance, with many more adult volunteers from the region organising and working at the event.

After months of planning, preparation and anticipation, Scouts from over 200 countries arrived in Kristianstad, Sweden to experience a trip of a lifetime, with a spectacular Opening Ceremony starting the adventure. From the main stage, a sea of young people making new friends, laughing and celebrating could be seen. A rainbow of flags from the UK to Brazil, USA to Pakistan, and Indonesia to Kenya could be seen being waved proudly in peace and harmony.

The annual event has had a major revamp this year, changing the name to 'The Jean Douglas Challenge Cup'. Jean dedicated her life to Scouting in Seghill, and was a massive football fan, never missing a Newcastle match. Jean sadly passed away, and is always missed by all in scouting and the community.
